Elmerisms

I was at church last night and we started talking about Elmer. I told how he called Peter, Paul and Mary "Peter, Paul and Ugh." Norm Swanson came up with a good one I'd never heard before. Elmer said, "Norm, you and I are so skinny that we have to stand up twice to cast a shadow."

What are your favorite Elmerisms?

One we use often is, "THIS is the one we've been waiting for!" He'd always say it with the last bale off the rack or the last load of pipe being brought in from the field.

And I'll never forget the time, shortly after we moved up to the farm from Crab Orchard, and Daddy was in the process of turning the work over to Wayne. Wayne and I were pulling gaskets out of the last load of pipe in front of the machine shed. As Daddy walked toward us from the trailer house, Wayne proudly picked up Daddy's "closing line," and announced, "This is the one we've been waiting for."

Quick as a cat, Daddy replied, "Well, then, why didn't you START with that one?!"

I will NEVER forget Elmer topping his own punch line that day. I still laugh about it.
